Mac a £oan (v1.0) was meant to be a simple and friendly program that would be useful for the rest of us. It was originally uploaded to GEnie in 1987 and then removed. In the interim, imitations have appeared on GEnie, but don't be fooled! On June 26th, 1988, Coconut Info re-released Mac a £oan (v1.1) as a permanent shareware program. It was System 6.0 and MultiFinder compatible.
Today, on October 29, 1988, Coconut Info is releasing a minor upgrade, Mac a £oan (v1.2). It is System 6.0.2 and MultiFinder compatible. (Summary Only calculations need to be done in the foreground.)
Mac a £oan is a stand alone application. Simply double-click the Mac a £oan application, or select it and then choose open from the Finder.
Mac a £oan will generate a standard amortization schedule using approximate time and ordinary simple interest. (Banking standard) Use command-shift-4 to print the screen if you want. LaserWriter users will need to do a command-shift-3 to save a screen snapshot in a paint file format for further manipulation. Yes, this a very simple approach.
You must enter the amount of the loan as well as the desired interest rate plus the length of the loan in years. Use decimals for fractions, i.e. you would enter the decimal fraction .5 for half a year.
Click the check box for summary only if that is all you want, otherwise it will track forward for each year of the loan after clicking the calculate button. Cancel anytime.
Patience is a virtue when calculating ‘summaries only’ for astronomical calculations. I'll save you some curiosity though by telling you that if you are calculating the ‘summary only’ of a loan amortization over the next 600 years you are going to have to wait a few minutes. The large watch icon means “please wait, calculations are in progress by your local CPU.”
You may “break out” of Mac a Loan processing by pressing the conventional Command Period keys. I can't think of why you would want to do so, however.
Mac a £oan works well when linked with the financial utility StackMoney_1.2. StackMoney was authored by Coconut Info and is available only from HEIZER SOFTWARE in their FALL 88 catalog Stack Exchange. (See page 49, cat. no #30178, price $20). Simple interest between any two dates (Not so simple without StackMoney. Very useful when providing interest statements to borrowers.)
Each utility comes complete with an in-depth explanation. The scripting is concise and clean. Take charge of your financial forecasting powers. Approve loans based on REAL money values. Be as smart as your bank is.
You can make a button that will run Mac a £oan directly from StackMoney for even more power and usefulness.
HOW:
Make a new button on the first card of StackMoney. Give it the same flavor as the buttons that are already there if you wish. At least try to make it attractive! Give the button this script and make sure Mac a £oan resides in the same directory position (or folder) as StackMoney:
